Mojgan immigrated to Canada from Iran in the Summer of 2014 with her son. Mojgan has a Masters degree in Psychology and worked as a counsellor in Iran for 5 years before moving to Canada. However, even with her credentials and experience Mojgan is not able to practice as a licensed counsellor in Canada. She currently works as a sales associate at a local pharmacy, but is desperate to return to work as a counsellor.
Mojgan is aiming to acquire Canadian qualifications by doing a Post-degree Diploma in Inter-professional Mental Health and Addictions at Camosun College. It’s a program that would enable Mojgan to work with individuals and families with mental health and addiction challenges.
Once she has the Diploma, Mojgan will be able to apply for jobs with VIHA and other mental health care providers. If she’s successful in obtaining a training-related job, Mojgan should be able to, at the very least, double her hourly earnings as well as work in a field about which she is clearly passionate.
Mojgan’s credit file indicates that she has a relatively short credit history and a decent payment history.
“I just want to do what I know I’m good at and what I’m passionate about”, Mojgan says. This training will not only give her the opportunity to do so, but it also has the potential to significantly improve the quality of her life.
