Community Micro Lending helps local people without access to traditional financing to start and grow their business, or to obtain training that will lead to employment, by matching them with local lenders and providing ongoing capacity building and support.
Community Micro Lending is a small non-profit born and raised in the heart of Victoria B.C. With a staff team of 3, we rely on the support of volunteers and our dedicated Board of Directors. Our current Board Members include:
Robert has an MBA from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford and is a PhD candidate at Carleton University's Sprott School of Business. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Royal Roads. His has previously volunteered with the Canadian Youth Business Foundation, Ottawa Community Loan Fund, and Kiva.org. "I believe that business can do amazing things and that entrepreneurship can be a tool for positive social change and economic development. Victoria Community Micro Lending combines entrepreneurship with the power of community to remove obstacles; empowering others and creating connections. How could I not want to be a part of that?"
Jacqueline Quinless is the principle owner of Quintessential Research Group Inc, (QRG) a local Results Based Management (RBM) firm that specializes in socio-economic and health research, and environmental consulting. Since 2004, Jacqueline has also been a faculty member at Camsoun college in sociology and is completing her PhD at the University of Victoria. I am excited to be part of such an important economic and social initiative with other like minded people that regard microfinance and lending as an integral way to foster socio-economic development and enhance our local economy in a sustainable way.
As a Branch Manager with Vancity Credit Union’s Mount Tolmie community branch, Chris has broad experiences in retail financing and general experience with all aspects of financial services products through his nearly 20 years in the financial service industry. Keen interest in daily operations best practices and improving workplace processes. With recent experiences achieved through Leadership Victoria program, he ensures that collaborative best practices are adapted in all workplace settings to produce strong team development and engagement and ensuring community interests are better integrated in his work. Chris currently sits on the Loan Committee in assessing and adjudicating the decision making on borrowers approaching Community Micro Lending.
John Worton is a founding member of CML and is a Director and a member of the Loan Committee. He retired to Victoria after practicing law in Alberta for over 35 years. He believes that many people can improve their lives with a little help and that CML provides that help.
